HOW JOVIOUS IS IT!

That day it turned to be our joy. Our teacher informed us about coming up with club projects which gave us morale because we knew the benefits of teamwork. Also we realized that she understands that we all come from different backgrounds.

This has made us to come up with projects like: beads making, art work and preparation of detergents among others that we are brainstorming of.

We hope that it will be successful so that we may benefit from it and try to eradicate poverty in our society and also sharpen our skills. We are longing to know more about projects that may benefit us though we don’t know about them. It’s wow for us students who are bright-minded students!

PREFECTS ELECTIONS IN OUR SCHOOL!

Prefects election is an activity that is held every third term each year. It is always a very competitive activity as every student is busy trying to convince the others he/she can lead.

The prefects elected form the prefects body which helps in day to day running of the school. The body is made up of 20 prefects each heading a given department. Some of the departments includes; games department, kitchen department .lab department among others. The body is headed by the head-boy with assistance of the head-girl.

Clean water is hard to find in Africa. How ever when water is found its too far from the village and its hard work trying to carry it back.I suggest we send engineers to help create a water system under ground to connect it to the villages.

I think that it was very good to come up with a plan on how the water will be used. Its sad that all of you have limited water. I never thought that water would actually be a problem in other countries. Even though i have had history and global classes it hasn't really caught my attention. it seems like everything we have over here we take for granted.

We have 10-15 members, and we work on raising awareness about the children in Uganda and other areas around the world.

We are starting to do volunteer work in our area…for example, we made and served dinner to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, and are scheduling to help with tutoring at risk students.

MATCHING WITH LIFE CHANGES

I was sitting with my mother at home chatting about changes that are taking place in our day today life experiences. Surprisingly, it was too hard for me to convince her that we should cope with modern life. No sooner had I finished explaining to her than she interrupted me. "what are you saying now? Don't you see that these modern changes are contradicting our tradition facts?. That you can't do what our ancestors used to do?." she said all these while standing and I thought she had gone mad.
"Mother, you should understand that life is matter of creativity. You don't follow what dead peaple used to do or what others are forcing you to do. you do things out of your own will".

We are very glad that we attended this most important day .This day was meant to clean Mai Mahiu town that is among the many towns in Kenya that are affected by environmental pollution.The cleaning started at 10.00 am and ended at 12.30 pm.The clean-up was arranged by comfort the children international(CTC).The main participants were,

1)Longonot Secondary School.

2)Mai Mahiu Secondary School

3)Mai Mahiu Primary School

4)Locally based women organisations.

The day was successfull and everyone who participated went home knowing that she/he had taken part in environmental conservation.

Its all computers and learning for Longonot Rafiki club

Its a good feeling to have computers back at the school which had been away for some time for servicing and reinforcement.
We are now accessing the computers fully whereby we have introduced to the TIGed site and we are still practicing on how best we use it.
All the Rafiki members have been created accounts for and we can now chat with each other on site,this is something we are really enjoying. Cant wait to have a partner school from the West.

its a great feeling to be back and get the rafiki link club going.
so many good plans ahead for this year.
i would like to thank all those who have been supporting us in various ways so as to make our programme grow.
we hope that we will still be working together this year in coming up with great ideas for implementation and much collaboration.
we as the rafiki link club in longonot are happy to have learnt new things concerning technology.
we have recruited new rafiki members at Longonot who were really eager to join the club since it started which brings us to a total of 17 students.

RAFIKI DAY

The party started very well where Rebecca introduced us to victor (Motivational speaker of the day) we interacted with Rafiki members from other schools which was a great fun.
Victor taught us very important things about life as youths where we also played some fun games that really made us very happy.
We also enjoyed eating very delicious meal together with the rest of the students from the rest of the schools that is Ngeya Primary pupils and Maai- Mahiu secondary students.
We also had an opportunity to listen to nice music and all of us also enjoyed dancing together, we actually felt like spending all of our time together but it was time to leave for our homes. we greatly enjoyed this day and it was incredible. We can't also forget that we received certificates during this day which was a great motivation to us.

There are thing that makes us feel desperate, sad, afraid, surprised and amazed .People go through difficulties which makes them feel lonely and disappointed .One may fail in this in problems without his her concern.
.Last Friday when Brazil had a match with Netherlands we were escorting our friend past seven in the evening .That was something that I was not used to but it forced me. My parent tried to sooth her to sleep home but she disagreed with them so, my sister and I decided to take her home.
On our way home, we saw a beam of light at a far distance. We couldn’t see clearly because it was too dark .My feelings could not let me move on, but my friend kept on encouraging me. As we were approaching the gate, we suddenly heard somebody behind us. ‘Stop! Stop! Or else I skin you alive,’ a harsh voice came from behind. We let out a loud scream that cut through aerial silent that had roomed the area. My friend’s parent came armed for a safety. The strange man ran away helter shelter after he heard them coming.
We couldn’t go home that night till morning because of fear. From that day I never dared to walk at night.

ROAD CARNAGE IN KENYA

Road carnage in Kenya can be attributed to recklessness among all roadusers.Most drivers are always after accumulating hefty amounts of money into their pockets rather than taking care of the precious lives that constitute the content of all public vehicles.the question still remains,who is to blame on all these road accidents?First of all all drivers should strictly stand against bribery which leaves most of the traffic police unable to curb crime among public vehicles’operators’.Secondly,all unroadworthy vehicles should be removed from our roads.Is it greed for money that keeps us blind from seeing the number of lives that vanish everyday?All of us should join hands and in one voice strand against roadcarnage.

Once as our history teacher was teaching he gave us a short story concerning a european priest & a lady.The lady's husband had been killed by a european who looked like the priest.Once the priest was preaching about the crucification of Jesus.As he continued,the lady recalled her husband who was killed &she started crying.the priest thought that the word had touched the lady.He preached more vigorousy but the lady cried the more.Finally the priest felt so proud because he had preached a touching word which was not the case.can you imagine all this?.

HURRY HURRY HAS NO BLESSINGS.

Sometimes people wake up in bad mood and being stressed. Sometimes it is difficult to get a person without mental anguish. Most of the students get stressed and you would see them in class thinking instead of concentrating.When people grow old they become forgetful, and sometimes make mistakes.
This happened to one of my classmates who did a funny thing. She woke up late and wanted toget to school early. She had 20 minutes to prepare herself, take breakfast and rush to school.she prepared herself in a hurry and swiftly got into the dinning table.
In there,got her mum who served her the tea.There were two containers of sugar and salt on the table.The containers were same in colour. Due to her hurry she took the container containing salt and put one spoonful of the salt in the tea. Guess what? mmmmh.....the tea was too bitter!!! She rushed outside and spat it. she washed the cup and repeated the same mistake again.She had no alternative but to go to school without breakfast.
We should be accurate in all our doings.we should be sober always. We always mess up because of carelessness. Remember always the adage that states " Hurry Hurry Has no Blessing".

Nairobi trip with Bodwell students

This was the best moment for Longonot secondary students. this morning they all gathered at CTC office in Maai- Mahiu ready to be picked by the bus for their trip to Nairobi. The bus picked them at around 9am where Longonot students joined Maai- Mahiu secondary students and Bodwell students; they enjoyed riding together in the same bus with schools from different schools, that is Maai- Mahiu secondary in Kenya and Bodwell students from Canada.
They started at Safari walk and later went to the animal orphanage, all students had a fun moment where they were able to interact with each of the students from both Bodwell and Maai- Mahiu gsecondary.
Students also enjoyed eating their lunch together in one of the best hotels and they all enjoyed the meal at the Safari walk restaurant.
Longonot school would like to thank Bodwell for letting the students join them in this great moment, the school also appreciates what Rafiki Link program is doing.

EXAMINATION WEEK.

On matters concerning exams,things have not being bad to some student.Some have done their best but to some,it has discouaraged them.Happy will be those who will achieve what they sow the right seed because they will reap what good they sow.
For any better performances proper preparation should be taken ealier before the examination.work hard!

Rafiki calendars

We have received several copies of Rafiki link calendars from Canada which were designed using photos that students took during the Bodwell trip last year on April when Kenyan students and Canadian students spent sometime together here in Kenya.

Kenyan students were given disposable cameras where they went and took their favorite photos in their homes/ villages which appeared in our Rafiki 2010 calendar. Students who appeared in the calendars were very much happy to see themselves appearing in those calendars, others who did not appear were requesting if they could appear in the 2011 calendars. The school administration was also very much appreciative and they commented that this is a very great way of motivating students.

Some of the students who appeared on the calendars have already graduated from high school and we are very sure that they would love to see those calendars, the few calendars that we had went to one student who spent sometime with Bodwell students last year and the rest went to the school administration.

School is very much thankful for all the efforts that Canada put towards the success of Rafiki Link.

Hi all, we are very glad to be back at school this year.
Rafiki Link has been moving on well and we have now already learnt how to send emails and we are hoping to have a lot of flow of information between us and the students in the west, we have already brainstormed on what we want to communicate with students in the west and some of the ideas that we have include:

Hi Bodwell students, below is a topic that we would like to discuss with you about air pollution.
Air pollution has increased drastically in the whole world, it has flourished as bushfire due to improvement on the level of technology, in most cases,developed countries have factors that promote industrial growth hence pollution in such countries is very high.

Air pollution leads to destruction of the the protective ozone layer. it corrodes it therefore exposing mankind to high chances like contracting skin cancer due the gamma rays from the sun.

To reduce air pollution all nations should come together and come up with alternative methods of producing enough power to run in the industries that is environmentally friendly since use of fossil fuels is the main cause of air pollution.

How are you Bodwell high school student?we are student from Longonot high school ,we would like to discuss with you about drug abuse.

Drug abuse is the use of drugs in an unintended way or use of drug in large quantities.

Drugs are grouped in to two categories.

HARD DRUGS,this drugs include Mandrax,Heroine and Cocaine.This kind of drugs has resulted to negative effects to the country economy and also to individuals.

such effects include;

a. mental problems

b. health complication

c. financial constraints

MEDICAL DRUGS,THIS are drugs which are given at hospitals by doctors.They are only abused if consumed in large quantities.They include;malariaquine.

Youths should join hands and firmly condemned drugs abuse including themselves getting rid of drugs and participating in public awareness compaigns.

We are also looking forward to have a facebook group where we can post photos and tag them, we will keep you posted on all that is happening.

Rafiki link club has been going on well though some little problems here and there, in our computer lab we use power from the solar and sometimes we do not get enough sun light for the whole day. We usually have Rafiki Link meetings on every Wednesday of the week where Mwaniki comes to train us on the use of computers, how to use digital cameras and how to transfer those photos to our computers.

We have been greatly affected in that in the evenings when we usually go for the Rafiki Link meetings, the power from our solar batteries is usually very low and our laptops go off before we finish up on the training, we are hoping that there will be electricity in our school in future.

We now know how to transfer photos to our computers and we are starting to use online spaces next year when we break from school holiday, though it seems that we should have more time for our Rafiki link meetings.

Our school volleyball and football (soccer) teams, both boys and girls, left for Oserian, Naivasha for inter-school zonal competitions today. The competitions are between schools like Karima, Maai Mahiu, Longonot, Kiambogo, and all Naivasha schools. The competitions will go up to tomorrow (Saturday). We expect good results because our students have been practising very hard!
